Luis Manuel Otero has been arrested in the middle of the street, at cultural events, while handing out candy to children, at Havana Airport, and even inside his own home. He has also been disqualified on social media by the Deputy Minister of Culture Fernando Rojas, He was accused of "lacking artistic endorsement" and is not allowed to leave the country. His face and name have been widely defamed in the official media, and his private communications exposed.
Luis Manuel is currently hospitalized and being held incommunicado at Calixto García Hospital. After a week-long hunger and thirst strike, authorities transferred him to the medical center in the early hours of the morning. Since then, little has been known about his condition.
