Ángel Jesús Véliz Marcano, a young protester from the 11J protests, is on hunger strike in the Kilo 9 prison in Camagüey, demanding that the authorities respect his legitimate right to progress to the minimum severity regime and access parole.
In a letter published by his mother, Ailex Marcano, Véliz Marcano expressed that, despite maintaining impeccable conduct, both he and other prisoners are denied this right for demanding changes for Cuba.
Through a video shared on his Facebook profile, Ailex Marcano denounced that, like many other political prisoners, his son is denied the right to progress in the prison system simply for thinking differently.
The arbitrary interpretation of the laws that regulate these benefits constitutes a violation of the fundamental rights of persons deprived of liberty in Cuba, especially political prisoners.
