Sissi Abascal's request for regime change denied for the seventh time

From Cubalex we denounce the situation of political prisoner Sissi Abascal Zamora Camenate, held in the La Bellotex prison, where she continues to be a victim of systematic human rights violations.

The report was submitted by her mother, Annia Zamora Camenate, who was able to visit her for two hours on September 17. During that visit, she confirmed that Sissi remains in the prison infirmary recovering and shared her daughter's greetings and thanks to everyone who has been concerned about her health.

On September 12, an officer informed Sissi that, for the seventh time, she was denied a change of prison regime, which unfairly keeps her under a severe regime, on the third floor of the prison and in prison uniform, despite having the right to move to a less severe regime.

This repeated refusal constitutes an act of political repression, in which the management of the La Bellotex prison, State Security and the court intervene, who deliberately violate the minimum guarantees recognized by international law.

The case of Sissi Abascal reflects a pattern of systematic repression against political prisoners in Cuba, where the prison system is used as a mechanism of punishment against those who dissent peacefully.

From Cubalex we demand of the Cuban State:

  • Respect for Sissi Abascal's rights.
  • The immediate cessation of reprisals against him.
  • The end of the arbitrary use of the prison system as political punishment.
